Cape Pillar - TAS (PB00 5568)

Keywords: Cape Pillar - TAS (PB00 5568) Tasman Peninsula Rocks Tasman Island Cape Raoul

Rather an unusual view of Cape Pillar captured from Tasman Island. Most people don't have the chance to go to Tasman Island as it is virtually impossible to land a boat there, so the only real alternative is to charter a Helicopter which can be very expensive. I was fortunate enough to go there with a group called The Friends of Tasman Island, people who do whatever they can to take care of the island, the Lighthouse, and the buildings that remain on the island. One of the members of the group is John Cook, the second longest serving Lighthouse keeper in Australia with an asthonishing 29 years of service and some fantastic stories to match. I created this spectacuar image while standing on top of a cliff face on Tasman Island. The wind was howling 35 knots and I had to be careful not to be blown off the edge into the raging ocean many metres below. Soft afternoon light makes this image everything that I had pre visualised in my mind in the days before landing.
