Pt Cartwright Lighthouse 1 -QLD (PB 003210)

Keywords: Pt Cartwright Lighthouse 1 (PB 003210) Mooloolaba Buddina 4557 4575 Kawana

Pt Catwright lighthouse was built in 1978 because of some pretty crazy bungles by governments of the day. The story goes something like this. The first lighthouse was established at Caloundra in 1896 and was the typical timber and metal Queensland tower. In 1967, a new lighthouse (a much grander concrete structure) was erected for the Caloundra Harbour next to the old lighthouse on Canberra Terrace. After a while the second lighthouse was becoming obscured by high-rise development and it was decided to build a new light on the coast to guide ships approaching the NW channel to Moreton Bay from the North... The story goes on... This, the third lighthouse, was finally erected on the mouth of the Mooloolah River at Point Cartwright, 14 kilometres north of the old lights at Caloundra, and finally seems to have solved the problems, For now.
